Broke and depleted, Stima opt for fresh voltage

Western Stima team manager Samuel Juma is hopeful the Kisumu based side will overcome the financial storms bedeviling the outfit.

Lack of finances occasioned by the withdrawal of shirt sponsors KPLC has seen the team lose key players in droves leaving them between a rock and hard place.

After losing head coach Salim Babu to Wazito FC in August last year, Stima have also seen 13 players walk out to other teams leaving only 11 second-string players, and as measures to stay afloat, they’ve opted to go for fresh voltage by conducting trials at Nyamasaria grounds in Kisumu.

The club hopes from the trials they can get promising players to get them up again.

“We have lost 13 players which reflects the entire first team squad. We are still on trials and targeting around 15 players.

This process which started a week ago is expected to continue for the next two weeks as we hope to have the best out of those available”, Juma said.

Stima finished seventh on the log with 36 points by the time the government suspended sports in the country after the first Covid-19 case was announced.

“We are still out sourcing for more sponsors. At the moment we cannot say that we have landed one but we are optimistic. As for now we are only relying on handouts from well-wishers,”he said. “Things will work out.”
