As preparations for Saturday’s Kip Keino Classic Continental Tour Gold meet hit top gear, organizers of AG Memorial Van Damme Diamond League meeting in Brussels have arrived in the country to spruce things up.

The five officials who arrived on Monday are; Lennert Aldelhof, Dimitri Stroobants, Marc Corstjens and Marek Plwago of Belgium and Eddy Stevens of Poland.

They join their counterparts Steffi Brachmann and Armin Reepschlager both from Germany who arrived in the country last week while Bob Verbeeck of Belgium is also expected in the country on Wednesday.

After paying a courtesy call to Kip Keino Classic meet director Barnaba Korir at Riadha House on Tuesday, the officials thereafter toured the refurbished Nyayo Stadium which will host the one-day meet.

Aldelhof who specializes in stadium management said he is expecting a lively contest with the 30,000- seater facility cleared to open its doors to some 6000 fans amid Covid-19 pandemic.

“In Brussels Diamond League we did not have fans in the stadium and thus we had to create an extra sound of spectators. Hopefully, with the number of fans we will be having then we will have enough noise in the stadium,” said Aldelhof.

On his part, Stroobants who is an event organiser said they are working with the local technical officials to make the event a success.

“We are here to share our experience of track and field with the local team because we want to set up a magnificent event on Saturday,” said Stroobants.

Kip Keino Classic Continental Tour is the seventh and the final leg of the inaugural World Athletics Continental Tour series and is also the only leg set to be held in African soil.

At least 150 athletes from 32 countries have been confirmed for the meeting.
