Bukhungu task awaits new Kakamega sports boss Kundu

Overseeing the completion of the Bukhungu Stadium and finalizing the sponsorship deal for Kakamega Homeboyz are the immediate tasks at the hands of the newly appointed Kakamega County Sports boss, Robert Kundu Makhanu.

Kundu was Wednesday appointed the County Executive Committee (CEC) in charge of the region’s Ministry of Social Services, Youth, Sports and Culture, replacing former boss Robert Sumbi.

Governor Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya has shown keen interest in sport, adopting a hands on approach in its development in the region with his reshuffle serving the latest indication of his ambitions.

“Our governor has a deep passion in matters concerning talent growth. What Kundu will have to focus on enhancing the youth centers set up help in talent development,” Sumbi told Citizen Digital.

Kundu, a former Majority Leader in the County Assembly, will be tasked with overseeing the refurbishment of the Bukhungu Stadium which is set to host the first leg of AFC Leopards’ CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round against FOSA Juniors of Madagascar on February 11.

The former Kongoni Ward MCA will also see to it that Governor Oparanya’s pledge to bankroll the activities of Kenyan Premier League side Homeboyz is fulfilled.

He will also supervise the planned facelift program for the county’s 62 youth centres as the administration intends to have them support young disabled athletes.
