Bungoma County to host first KVF leg

The first phase of the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) national league will serve off on March 23, according to the calendar of events circular published by the league management body on Wednesday.

Bungoma County will host the first leg which will run from March 23-25 with the subsequent rounds to be held in Nyeri , Uasin Gishu ,Nandi ,Mombasa, Makueni and Baringo counties in that order.

KVF National Organizing Secretary Ismael Chege told Citizen Digital the fixtures and the number of the teams which will be participating in this year’s season will be known after the team managers’ meeting set to be held on February 10.

“After our calendar approval for this year’s events we are going to have a team managers and coaches’ meeting for the league draws so that we can plan for the fixtures as per the calendar,” Chege said.

The official added that KVF national and branch election dates remain unresolved but was certain they will be held in April.

The federation Secretary General Ben Juma disclosed they will have an expanded board of administration meeting to deliberate on the exact date of the much awaited poll.

It is widely anticipated that KVF President Waithaka Kioni who doubles up as the vice-president of the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (Nock) will contest for a fifth term.

The year of 2018 is poised to be a busy year for KVF with four championships – Women Africa club championship (March 5-18), Men Africa club Championships (March 25 to April 6), CAVB Women U20 Championships (August 17 to 26) and the FIVB World Women’s Championships (September 27 to October 20) – lined up.
