In Summary

  • The dockers failed to register a single shot on target during the dour weekend draw and will have to be at their fluent best in front of goal.

Bandari will be aiming to score an early away goal to keep alive their dreams of qualifying for the first time to the second round of the CAF Confederations Cup when they travel to Sudan in two weeks time.

Speaking in the wake of a barren draw with their Sudan opponents Al Ahly Shandy at Kasarani at the weekend, Bandari coach Bernard Mwalala said they are re-strategizing on their attack ahead of the second round contest in Sudan.

“We didn’t know more of our opponents but now we will work on an early away goal to give them extra work,” said Mwalala.

Mwalala added that the game is still wide open especially after the barren draw unlike their previous encounter against St. Eloi Lupopo of DRC in 2016 when they drew 1-1 at Nyayo  National Stadium to bow out on a 3-1 aggregate after before losing 2-0 in the return fixture.

The dockers failed to register a single shot on target during the dour weekend draw and will have to be at their fluent best in front of goal.

“Nil nil is better than conceding a goal at home and I believe the game is still wide open,” he said.

At the same time Mwalala is confident that acquiring the signature of Burundian and former Sofapaka keeper Justin Ndikumana will add depth in their goalkeeping department.

Ndikumana is believed to be a perfect replacement for Farouk Shikhalo who decamped to Tanzanian outfit Young Africans.

Bandari will face the Sudanese in the return leg in Khartoum on Friday 23 with the overall winner tackling the winner between Amarat of South Sudan and US Ben Guerdane of Tunisia in the second round.
