Buoyed by a Ksh.15 million purse string, Nkatas Homeboyz dares to dream

Kakamega Homeboyz head coach Paul Nkata has rejected talks that his modest side could be among the title contenders this season after amassing maximum points in their last two outings, stating that his team’s only target is to win FKF Shield and earn a top- three finish.

Homeboyz have registered their best start ever in the top flight after thumping erstwhile ‘brothers’ from western Kenya  AFC Leopards 3-0 at Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega on Sunday, a win that comes barely a week after a 1-0 victory over KCB .

“Our plan is not to win the league but to collect maximum points at our disposal.

“We are working hard in training and nothing else”, he said.

The Ugandan who won the league title with Tusker FC in 2016 joined Homeboyz in May on a one -year contract, taking over from Mike Mururi who parted ways with the club.

Homeboyz who outfoxed Ingwe on their home ground hoping to maintain their impressive start to life in the top division also hopes that this will inspire them to a stronger finish this term.

The team’s bid for the ascendancy also got a massive shot in the arm last week when they signed a long term contract with the county government of Kakamega  and the soft spoken Nkata knows too well what this portends.

“We are motivated after signing a contract with the county of Kakamega and that has been depicted by boys’ response on the pitch,” he added.

On the other hand, who are yet to know as to whether head coach Nicola Kavazovic will return from Serbia where he had allegedly gone to attend to a family matter have just one point from two matches sitting at position 15 the 18-team league.

The team is currently under the care of assistant coach, the 27-year-old Marko Visiljevic, also a Serbian.

Leopards next test will be against Sofapaka at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos this Saturday as Homeboyz wvisit Moi Stadium, Kisumu to face hosts Western Stima .

Homeboyz blistering start to life has seen them occupy the joint top slot alongside Matahre United, Bandari and Stima – who are all on six points.
