Burly Agwanda pips all to bag July award
Rejuvenated Sony Sugar striker Enoch Agwanda has won the coveted Kenyan Premier League Player of the Month Award for July after hauling his boyhood club from relegation embers to the comfort of mid table with match winning performances.
He laid twin assists and banged in two goals in July to force himself into contention for the award that yields a 49- inch LG television set and Sh 100,000.
Agwanda then required good fortune to trounce Bandari goalkeeper Farouk Shikalo and young Sony Sugar forward Tobias Omondi
Agwanda, fondly called ‘Jowi’ (Buffalo) due to his burly frame consequently becomes the the first Sony Sugar player to win the award since it’s inception four years ago.
“I have to thank my wife and parents for making me return to Sony Sugar because my career has been rejuvenated. It was difficult in Bandari with the injuries but once I returned everything is falling in place,” Agwanda said
He set a modest target of five goals in the half season but has already surpassed with two goals. “The coach who brought me back here really trusts me and that is a real confidence boost to any player. I didn’t really play as good as I wanted in July but it’s still an improvement from June. I’ve made even more improvements this month and I believe I will be in contention for August honors as well.” added the former Gor Mahia ahead Ushuru FC forward.
Agwanda rejoined Sony Sugar during the June transfer window with the club languishing in relegation zones. His goals have helped the 2006 league champions move to the top half of the table.
Sony have now set a top five finish, as their target.
