Busia champs Bunyala Model draw Kibabii Boys in regional games

New Busia County football champions Bunyala Model Secondary have been drawn in Pool A of the Regional Term 2 Games in Bungoma starting Wednesday June 19th with hosts champions Kibabii Boys.

Other teams drawn in the same pool with Model include Vihiga and Kakamega County runners up Emanyinya and Emanani respectively.

Model upset the formbook on Saturday to win the County title after beating 2018 runners up Mabunge RC 2-0 in the final played at St Joseph’s Secondary School grounds.

Defending champions Kamuriai were eliminated at sub-county level.

Mabunge, in Pool B, will face Kakamega County champions St Peter’s Mumias, Vihiga champs Ebwali and Bungoma runners up Malik Boys.

Kakamega County games saw a major upset with the elimination of national champions Kakamega Green Commandoes in the preliminary round matches.

Busia County under 20 Girls champions St Joseph’s Chakol have been pitted against national runners up Archbishop Njenga, and Vihiga and Bungoma runners up Emanyinya and FSS Naitiri.

Aboloi team, who lost to St Joseph’s Chakol in the final, are in Pool A with Vihiga and Bungoma champions Mudavadi, Brenda and Kakamega runners up Butere.

Boys Volleyball also saw upsets with national champions Malava Boys, who had dominated volleyball for over a decade, falling in the preliminaries of the Kakamega County Games that was won by Kalumbeni after beating Indangalasia in the final.

Malava’s absence will give Busia champions Butula Boys a realistic chance of qualifying for the nationals for the first time after being ‘rigged’ out in last year’s regionals against Malava.

Butula beat Sigalame 3-0 to retain Busia County title. The school Principal Daniel Ouma is confident that the team has what it takes to secure a ticket to the national finals in the absence of their bitter rivals Malava Boys.

Malava Girls, who ended Lugulu’s two decades reign in 2010, are notable absentees after failing to qualify for the regional games yet again, leaving Lugulu with a better chance of recovering their lost glory in the nationals where they lost to eventual champions Kwathanze last year.
