Butali coach Owoka bemoans overused City Park

Butali Warriors head coach Dennis Owoka has urged the Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) to find an alternative venue for matches in Nairobi in order to spare the City Park from the damage of hosting too many matches.

Owoka suggested that the KHU could request Simba Union to use its stadium to ease the stress on City Park which is the current venue for all hockey matches played in Nairobi.

Owoka who has led Butali for the last three seasons since 2017 is optimist that their aim is to continue roaring in the men’s hockey league which they have won the league for the last two seasons.

“We can’t blame much the union now that we have three men and two women leagues running with an objective to complete the season in December yet the pitch is one.

“We hope that they in future talk to Simba Union so as to have that extra pitch to decongest the matches,” he said.

The league leaders who thrashed Sikh Union Nairobi 4-1 over the weekend will now be forced to wait until October 27 to lock horns with the Sailers reason being the crowded matches at the city park.

The unbeaten Warriors are first on the 10-teams log with 33 points after thirteen matches with only five to go while Wazalendo come 2nd seven points adrift them and Owoka is upbeat of adding another trophy on his name.

“We are yet to concede a goal so far and we have lined up a number of friendlies to add on our training.

It is another year that we expect to finish at the top of things and I want to thank the spirited players in my squad whom most of them are University students”, He added.

The team also enjoys overwhelming support from their sponsors Butali Sugar for their conquest in the men’s league.

Owoka is proud that his team is feeding the national hockey team with players to represent the country.

The national team that went to South Africa saw four youngster players being called from Butali Warriors for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic qualifiers event held in August this year.
