CAF slaps Gor in the face with Ksh.1 million fine

Gor Mahia on Tuesday suffered a further setback in their continental football forays after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) slapped them with a Ksh. 1 million fine for unsporting behaviour during their continental match against Lobi Stars in Nigeria that ended in a 2-0 loss for the Kenyan League champions.

The continental football body also banned defenders Joash Onyango and Haron Shakava for two Caf matches.

This means the duo will not be available for Gor’s match against New Star de Douala this Sunday in Cameroon, having also missed the first leg tie at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani last Sunday.

In a letter dated January 13, 2019 and addressed to FKF CEO Robert Muthomi, CAF Disciplinary Board Chairman  Ryamond Hack said Gor could elect to contest the decision, but must pay the fine within 60 days.

“This decision can be contested before CAF Appeal Board. The party intending to appeal shall announce his intention in writing within three (3) days of notification of the decision. If the last day of the time limit coincides with a public holiday in the country of residence, the time limit will expire the next day which is not a public holiday.

“Reasons for the appeal shall be given in writing within a further time limit of seven (7) days, commencing upon the expiry of the first time limit of three (3) days. The deposit mentioned in article 58 of the CDC must be paid to CAF’s account. The appeal is invalid without the relevant deposit within the relevant time limit.

According to the communique, Onyango used abusive language towards the referees while Shakava kicked the goalkeeper of Lobi Stars in the 2-0 defeat in Nigeria.

Gor has of late bore the brunt of CAF regarding disciplinary cases that has marred their continental matches. Last year K’Ogalo cried foul over mistreatment in Tunisia where they had gone to face Esperance in a CAF-Champions League preliminary match but did not lodge a formal compliant with CAF.

In  a separate interview on Tuesday with Citizen Digital , Gor’s deputy secretary Ronald Ngala had expressed hope that CAF would clear their two dependable defenders to feature in the match.
