Gor Mahia are still guessing on who and when to open their CAF Champions League campaign against, hampering proper preparations for the league.

Club chairman Ambrose Rachier says CAF is yet to release the fixtures, despite earlier communication the continental inter-club championship would kick-off in November.

“We are not sure but we hear the championship will kick-off early next month. However,  we have not received any official communication from CAF. This is a big challenge because we have set our target for the season to win the Champions League but we can’t prepare well without the information,” said Rachier.

With the FKFPL fixtures for the new season out, Gor are already planning on how to balance between the domestic and continental assignments.

He further observes most leagues across Africa are on and their likely opponents could be in active football making them physically fit.

“Physical fitness could be our major undoing. We cannot play against other teams as part of training since the Government has not given a nod to contact games to restart. Our would-be Champions League opponents could be in active football now. We really need to have a strategy,” he noted.

Club Secretary General Sam Ochola on Tuesday revealed the main task for their new coach Roberto Oliveira Goncalves is “to conquer Africa”.

The only and last time Gor Mahia lifted an African title was in 1987 when they won the then Nelson Mandela Cup.

Their new tactician was in charge of Rayon Sport (Rwanda) when they beat Gor  2-1 at the MISC Kasarani during the last CAF Confederations Cup edition.
