Cameroonian Nson appointed Morans assistant coach

Kenya Basketball Federation has appointed 43-year-old Cameroonian coach Abel ‘Alibaba’ Nson as assistant coach of the national men’s basketball team ahead of the country’s first Afrobasket Championships in 27 years.

The Afrobasket will be staged in Kigali Rwanda in August and Nson will work together with current assistant coach Sadat Gaya under Australian head coach Liz Mills.

Among other duties the coaches will handle are player evaluation, planning for training, planning for games and reviewing the team’s performance.

The 43-year-old Nson first arrived in Kenya in 2003 when he came to study at United States International University (USIU) on scholarship.

Being one of the finest three-point shooters at his time as a player he won the East Africa University Games cup with USIU in Nairobi in 2004, two league titles with Cooperative Bank in 2010 and 2011 together with the Zone V Championship in 2010.

As a coach he won two league titles and Zone V trophy in 2015 as an assistant coach with USIU Flames having also previously coached Masaku Sparks and is currently head coach of Storms women basketball team.

Nson also works professionally as a scout for the Toronto Raptors in the NBA.
