Captain Lilako hails KCB teammates for Kabras show

KCB RFC captain Curtis Lilako says he is proud of his teammates after they got one over rivals Kabras Sugar in Saturday’s heavyweight Kenya Cup showdown.

The Bankers triumphed 41-12 at the Ruaraka Grounds as they maintained their 100 percent winning streak this season.

The Millers came into the match hoping for a first ever top flight win over KCB but those hopes were quickly crushed as the hosts turned on the style to go five points clear at the summit of the log.

“It was a tough game; they’re a quality team and they made us work really hard for the win. I’m sure our bodies will be sore when we wake up tomorrow.

“We tried not to think about how good they are all week and instead looked at our own qualities,” Lilako told Citizen Digital.

Lilako was full of praise for his teammate Jacob Ojee despite losing a glorious opportunity during the game when he spilled the ball inside the try box.

“On big occasions, big men rise to it and we have plenty of those in our squad and I believe Ojee is one of the most talented and hardworking players we have on our side. I know he did his best despite that howler. Together with Mukidza they were immense,” the skipper said.

Heading to the post-season playoffs, KCB have already secured a semi-finals berth by virtue of being top of the league but Lilako maintains there is no room for complacency.

“We need a bit more consistency and to work on a few mistakes that lead to us conceding tries. We’ll need a strong defence line in order to prevail in the playoffs.”

KCB will meet fourth-placed Impala Saracens at the Ruaraka grounds in their last league game of the season as the champions look to make it 11 wins in 11.
