CECAFA 2015: Harambee Stars coach names strong team for Rwanda clash

Harambee Stars coach Bobby William has named a strong squad to take on Rwanda in the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup quarter final clash slated for Tuesday in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Boniface Oluoch starts on goal for Kenya with the defence being marshalled by Noah Abich, Mohamed Mbongi, David Cheche Ochieng and David Owino.

Anthony Akumu, Eric Johana, Clifton Miheso and Collins Okoth will occupy the midfield while Michael Olunga and Jacob Keli will lead the hunt for goals.

The Harambee Stars substitutes’ bench has David Abongo, Musa Mayeko, Christian Bwamy, Kevin Kimani, Jesse Were, Ali Hassan Abondo, Kevin Amwayi, Allan Wanga and Haroun Shakava.

The match between Kenya and Rwanda kicks off at 3:30pm.

Among those present in the stadium to support Harambee Stars is Sports Cabinet Secretary Hassan Wario.

Kenya threw away a perfect opportunity to finish top of the table when they lost 3-1 to minnows Zanzibar in a match that was preceded by threats of boycott and go slow over unpaid allowances.

Harambee Stars coach Bobby Williamson further complicated matters by substituting eight key players, a blunder that he later apologised for.

Kenya’ progression into the quarter finals was however assured after Uganda beat Burundi 2-0 in their last group match on Saturday.

In earlier quarter final clashes played on Monday, Uganda beat Malawi 2-0 while Ethiopia defeated Tanzania 4-3 to book a place in the semi-finals.

In another match set for today South Sudan will take on Sudan with the winner booking a semi-final slot.
