Champions Gor Mahia set to axe trio

At least three players are set to be released by Gor Mahia ahead of the 2019/2020 season to seek careers elsewhere as the club works on realigning its squad.

Topping the list is Ugandan Erisa Ssekisambu whose jersey number has been handed to new signing Ronack Elvis who will now don the Number 22 jersey.

Ssekisambu was also omitted from the Gor squad that is currently in Rwanda competing for the Cecafa Club Championship honours – an indication that the Ugandan is not in the plans of coach Hassan Oktay .

Gor already have five foreigners in their ranks including Dickson Ambundo(Tanzania), David Mapigano(Tanzania),  Shafik Batambuze and Hashim Sempala(both Ugandan).

Completing the foreign quintet is Francis Mustapha (Burundi). The Kenyan Premier League foreign quota rule limits the number of foreign players a club can sign at any given season to five, and this could have been the last straw that worked against Ssekisambu.

Also set for the exit door is custodian Shaban Odhoji whose jersey Number 16 has been handed to new goalie David Mapigano, while defender Pascal Ogweno has also seen his jersey Number 5 handed over to new recruit Tobias Otieno, who has joined the club from Sony Sugar.

Ogweno, Odhoji and Ssekisambu have all been left out of the Rwanda assignment.

In the meantime, Dickson Ambundo will now don jersey Number 9 left vacant by talisman Jacques Tuyisenge who decamped to Petro Atletico of Angola.
