Champions KPA storm into KBF playoff finals

The Kenya Basketball Federation (KBF) champions KPA reached the women’s playoff finals after defeating Storms 75-57 in Game Three of their semis clash at the Makande Gymnasium in Mombasa.

The win also meant they have booked their ticket to next year’s Africa Zone Five Championship as they are now guaranteed to finish inside the top two places in the domestic competition.

Playing on home court, KPA raced to a 40-23 half time lead after dominating the opening sets 23-13 and 17-10 with Lynette Atieno leading the charge with nine points as captain Brenda Angeshi topped up with seven.

Mellisa Akinyi was playing brightly to keep Storms in it as she contributed seven points but KPA still kept pulling away as they followed their half-time performance with 19-16 and 18-16 victories in the closing quarters.

Atieno led the scoring with 19 points while Berky Ngatha bagged 16 points.

“I hope the team will overcome the fatigue they are feeling now before we play the final. I also understand we are in Christmas mood so hope that won’t distract us from giving our best,” KPA head coach Antony Ojukwu told Citizen Digital.

KPA will now face either Equity or Strathmore in the final scheduled for next weekend.
