Champs KPA outclass JKT to stay on course at FIBA

Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) women’s basketball team outclassed hosts JKT 75-43 on Wednesday to stay on course for their FIBA African Zone Five Women’s title defence in Dar es Salaam.

The champions looked giddy in their campaign opener when they edged out APR of Rwanda 50-49 but looked settled against JKT as they swept to their second victory at the Tanzanian commercial capital.

The Dockers will hope to make it three wins on the bounce on Thursday when they face off with Wolkite of Ethiopia and captain Brenda Angeshi believes her side can keep the momentum.

“It’s a good feeling; the team chemistry is building up, we feel confident but we’re taking each game at a time,” Angeshi told Citizen Digital.

Their male counterparts, who finished third during last year’s edition in Uganda, bounced back from their opening 50-65 loss to South Sudan’s Cobra to rout JKT 76-44 on Wednesday.

Captain Samuel Ocholla said they were glad to be back on track ahead of their crunch clash against Smouha of Egypt.

Meanwhile Strathmore Blades lost 30-72 to Patriots of Rwanda to slump to their third successive defeat.
