Champs Kwale wary of Saints at Mombasa Games

East African champions Kwale Girls have identified St John’s of Kaloleni as chief candidates likely to rival them for the Mombasa County championship.

Head coach Mukasa Amboko, who guided Kwale during their unprecedented success last year, says St John’s are a huge threat to her side owing to their ‘untouchable form’.

Only six players from last year’s dream unit that conquered all to win the regional title in Rwanda last year will feature with majority having already graduated out of the institution.

“They (St John’s) are a very good team. It has always been difficult to play against them. They are well organized and have been making reinforcements recently-they have a very good goalkeeper. We know they are going to give us a threat but we are ready for them. We are going to tackle each and every team with a lot of seriousness,” Amboko said.

Interestingly the two sides are pooled in the same pot alongside Mama Ngina of Mombasa and Ngao of Tana River in pot A.

Although the 2016 Champions St John’s are predicted to give Kwale a genuine challenge, one team that should not be written off is Waa Girls who have already warned their rivals not to undermine them. Waa will hope to repeat what they achieved at the county level where they had a splendind showcase.

“Waa is a good team,we have played against them twice recently and we defeated them. We know how they are organized too but I will still state that my challenge is St John’s.” Stressed Amboko.

The clock is ticking and several teams have already reported at Malindi High school ready for the showdown on Thursday.

Winners in each category will have a chance of representing the region at the national level later on this year.
