Former Harambee Stars defender Ali Breik has called on the Football Kenya Federation to change tack in its hiring policy and offer coaches a longer period to implement their coaching philosophies as opposed to constant firing of coaches, if the national team is to register success.

Breik’s remarks come in the wake of the sacking of Francis Kimanzi as Harambee Stars coach yesterday, with his technical bench also being shown the door.

Breik believes the high turnover of coaches in the national team may affect the team’s outcome on the pitch.

“Every coach has his own philosophies and tactics so before the players adapt to them its a long process where time is needed,” said Breik.

The former Bandari and Coast Stars FC defender has at the same time urged the FA to invest in local coaches, by giving them opportunities to handle the national team, as opposed to hiring foreign tacticians.

Under Nick Mwendwa, Harambee Stars have been handled by different foreign coaches – Paul Put, Sebastien Migne and Bobby Williamson.

Stanley Okumbi was the first local coach to handle the the team under Mwendwa’s leadership, and later Kimanzi who was booted paving way for Jacob ‘Ghost’ Mulee to take over.

“Any coach who can accomplish the team’s mission is welcomed but having our own is much better,”concluded Breik.
