Chemelil Sugar FC disbanded
- The Chemelil based outfit was axed to the National Super League (NSL) at the end of the 2019-20 season when the top-flight league was prematurely ended owing to the coronavirus pandemic.
Chemelil Sugar FC have been disbanded, just a few months after they were relegated from the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League.
This even as the club was preparing to start a new life in the lower league, the National Super League after 24 years in the top flight.
Players have thus been asked to seek new clubs.
The Chemelil based outfit was axed to the National Super League (NSL) at the end of the 2019-20 season when the top-flight league was prematurely ended owing to the coronavirus pandemic.
Confirming the development, head coach Charles Odero regretted the decision terming it inhuman.
“I am so surprised that the management decided to disband the team abruptly without even bothering to follow due process, the transfer window is closed so where do they expect this boys to go, this is inhuman,” he said.
Odero has however urged his players to keep fit as they wait for the next transfer window.
“I want to urge my boys to keep fit, let them train as they wait for the next transfer window,” he went on. “I am available for a coaching role, I am hoping to find another club soon and maybe I will help some of these boys,” he concluded.
Before the league was stopped due to Covid-19, Chemelil Sugar FC was already facing relegation to the lower-tier as they had missed two matches in the league, meaning a third match could have seen them relegated.
The new FKF Premier League season is set to kick-off in November and already Vihiga United have sealed promotion to the top-flight after they beat Kisumu All-Stars 5-3 on post-match penalties.
