Cheruiyot to compete in 800m in Ostrava
World 1500m champion Timothy Cheruiyot is among global stars set to compete at the Ostrava Golden Spike, a Continental Tour Gold meeting slated for May 19.
Cheruiyot will contest in 800m in what will be his first track appearance this season and could challenge the meeting record of 1:43.24 set by compatriot Wilfred Bungei in 2003.
The athlete competed in mixed relay at the Kenya Cross Country Championships in February.
Joining Cheruiyot in Ostrava will be two-time world pole vault champion Sam Kendricks who set the meeting record with 5.93m in 2019 and 2017 world javelin champion Johannes Vetter Fresh from his world-leading 91.50m throw in Offenburg on Saturday.
The Ostrava meeting is the fourth leg of the Continental Tour Gold series after; USATF Grand Prix (April 24), Ready Steady Tokyo (May 9) and USATF Golden Games (May 9).
The Kip Keino Classic meet is slated for September 18.
