China holds dragon race

Dragon boat races were held in east China’s Zhejiang Province to celebrate the Duanwu Festival on Saturday.

The Duanwu Festival, also known as the Dragon Boat Festival, falls on the 5th day of the 5th month of the traditional Chinese lunar calendar. People celebrate the festival by holding dragon boat race and eating zongzi, a sticky rice delicacy wrapped in bamboo or reed leaves, and drinking traditional rice wine.

In the province’s Wenzhou City, a total of 32 professional teams participated in a national dragon boat race. The China Longzhou Tournament 2015 was carried out on 100, 200 and 500-meter-long waterways.

An amateur dragon boat race was held in the province’s Jiaxing City. Participants are fishermen, corporate staff and students with their ages ranging from 16 to 60 years ago.
