China to host inaugural World School Games

Winners of this year’s Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) games will play in the inaugural World Schools Games Championship to be hosted by China next year October, the East Africa games regional body has announced.

According to FEASSA, the Far East country has agreed to sponsor eighty percent of the games which will attract students from different countries across the globe.

Speaking to Citizen Digital after a symposium held here in Arusha, Tanzania on Monday, FEASSSA Secretary General David Ngugi revealed that they met delegates from China and Federation of World Schools Games Association where they agreed that schools who will win the ongoing East Africa Games will join other Africa winners to compete in China.

“This is a very good platform for our boys and girls after China promised to host the World Schools Games and we are happy because they have agreed to offer accommodation for free to schools which will participate and also they will pay eighty percent of the air tickets,” he said.

Ngugi who doubles up as the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) Secretary General, brimmed with confidence Kenya will shine at this year’s regional games in order to have representatives in the world schools fiesta.

“We hope Kenya will win in as many disciplines as possible so that we can have a good number in China. So far I am impressed by the talent on show here in Arusha,” he added.

However, Africa Schools Games first edition which was scheduled to be held in Nigeria October this year hangs on the balance owing to lack of sponsorship for the inter-schools championship.

The East Africa championship which entered its fourth day on Monday concludes on Saturday with six countries from the region fighting for title in volleyball, football, rugby, basketball, netball, athletics and racket games.
