Choda stopped as Takkunens bid Kenya Motocross bye

Tanav Choda’s dominance in the MX50 category in the Kenya Motocross Championships was halted in the fifth round at the Jamhuri Race Track in Nairobi late Sunday afternoon.

Choda who has won the past 4 rounds in emphatic fashion seemed to have a bad day in the office as he placed fourth in the 3 competitive stages.

Wahome Mutahi had contrasting fortunes as he ticked all the right boxes to finish top ahead of Mucoki Karingi, Atete Bezinge and Choda. Despite the fourth placed finish, Choda still leads the overall standings heading into the 6th round.

In the MX 65 category Neo Wahome had similar misfortunes and was dislodged from the summit of the standings by Jaiden Takkunen who finished first ahead of Kit Garner and Andrew Ahonde. Wahome settled for fourth.

Takkunen and his borther jet will not compete in the remaining 4 rounds and will be relocating to the United States.

“We have finally decided to relocate to the States after 7 years of being involved with Kenyan motocross. We thought it was a good thing to get to the bigger stage where we will expose the boys to a more competitive race of more than 20 bikes.

“However, we shall surely miss racing in Kenya,” said their mother Lindsey Takkunen.

Ngugi Waweru won the MX2 race beating his longstanding race adversary Elias Sherman to the second spot.
Ngugi lost the first heat to Sherman but fears of a cliffhanger evaporated soon enough when the former claimed the next two heats with zest and vigor.
“It was such a tough race and I glad that I was able to overcome Sherman’s challenge,” said Ngugi.
Kena Kimathi won the Pee Wee Class for the diminutives while Wahome Mutahi was the victor in MX50 class.
James Luisa won all the three heats at stake in MX85 Class showpiece with a maximum 60 points, while Zeni Glen and Dylan Mutahi came in second and third respectively.

It was a dry and dusty day at the Jamhuri park track which has undergone some major facelift over the last two years.
Among the fans who turned up to witness the race were former riders Cruze Muigai and Tutu Maina who captivated the track in the previous years.

The race was being used as a build up towards the FIM Africa Continental Challenge that will be held in Botswana in August.

Kenya is expected to enter a team to the prestigious championship that will feature top African riding nations like Botswana, South Africa, Uganda, Kenya, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
