City Stars boss Otieno backs Yidah to shine

Nairobi City Stars sports coordinators Samson Otieno says he has no doubt the quality of their new signing Sven Yidah means he will go straight into the starting eleven.

Yidah ditched Kariobangi Sharks for the Hope Centre based side after penning a two-year contract on Wednesday, becoming the club’s sixth signing of the season.

Otieno says Yidah will add invaluable experience to the team as well as increasing the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) returnee’s defensive midfield options.

“Previously we had one defensive midfielder but with his recruitment, we now have two which is a good thing for the club. At the moment we have three meaning the coach will be spoiled for choice,” he said.

Otieno also welcomed the addition of Erick Ombija who joined the club from KPL powerhouse Gor Mahia saying he will boost the club’s goal-scoring opportunities.

“Ombija is a goal-poacher because of his remarkable goal-scoring exploits. Am positive he will link up well with our top marksman Ibrahima Sane whose goals propelled the team to the Kenya Premier League last term.

“Sane’s aerial prowess was key last term and am confident the two can be a lethal force next season.”

He has maintained the team is active in the market as they look to sign an experienced center half and a goalkeeper who will fill the gap left by Levis Opiyo who left the club for champions Gor Mahia.

His crucial penalty saves against Nairobi Stima and Vihiga United proved pivotal as the team went on to seal promotion to the Kenyan Premier League.

Otieno says the team’s emphasis now is on staging an impressive start to life in the Kenyan top-tier league; a fete he says will only be achieved if the team maintains the core of its line-up and make quality additions.

Simba wa Nairobi will be making a return after four years in the cold.
