Clean sheets key to Homeboyz title chase- Muyoti

Kakamega Homeboyz coach Nicholas Muyoti says he expects nothing short of a clean sheet when his boys come up against relegation threatened Nzoia Sugar a Kenya Premier League match this weekend.

Muyoti was speaking on Sunday after his side humiliated relegation threatened Chemelil Sugar 6-0 at the Bukhungu Stadium at the weekend.

“I think it’s good we did not concede today(Sunday) and going forward I believe it is very  important for my boys. The next match against Nzoia; my expectation is that the boys will be able to keep a clean sheet just like today. I can assure the fans and our loyal followers that if we keep a clean sheet, the goals will always come …”

Homeboyz have been one of the division’s form team sitting second on the log on  44 points, four behind defending champions Gor Mahia.

“We will just continue with our preparations and ensure that we are able to defend well and use the chances that we have created,” he added.

Homeboyz who are playing just their second season in the top tier league following their promotion in the 2016 have been punching above their weight so far  handing even champions Gor Mahia a defeat  last month, a 2-1 win at the Bukhungu Stadium.

In 21 matches they have tasted defeat just thrice and once in the last 16 matches to amass  37 points  out of a possible 63 underlining their force as  rising force in the top division.

For all that his team’s performance is worth, Muyoti’s work in enabling his side dream of a first ever league title has been acknowledged by the Sports Journalist Association of Kenya who feted him with the coach of the month award in January where his side won four out of four.

With 11 matches to go and the title still up for grabs, Homeboyz will be hoping to dethrone Gor Mahia who  have made winning he gong an annual ritual.
