Clobbered by Berkane, Gor out to make amends at Bandari

Bandari host Gor Mahia in an FKF Shield round of 16 tie at the Mbaraki Sports Club in Mombasa Wednesday.

Gor Mahia, who slumped to a 2-0 defeat to Moroccan side RS Berkane in their CAF quarter final first leg, will have the chance to bounce back against a Bandari side who are slowly finding their feet after a poor run of form in recent weeks.

Sunday’s gritty league win against Kariobangi Sharks, their second win in a row, highlighted the coastal side’s upturn in form after a previous five-game winless run that had threatened to derail their season.

In contrast, Gor were powered and pressed into submission and will hope to put Sunday’s dismal performance behind them when they come up against a side who have traditionally proved to be their bogey team.

Mbaraki has often proved to be a graveyard for Gor Mahia’s dreams with last December’s league clash ending 2-1 in favour of the home team.

Gor team manager, Obondo Jolawi however remained defiant and insisted his charges will be out to seek redemption in Wednesday’s game.

“We accept that we played badly against Berkane but that does not mean we will play badly against Bandari. You cannot win all the games sometimes,” he said.

Gor are set to miss the services of midfielders Francis Kahata and Ernest Wendo for the game due to family commitments.

Striker Jacques Tuyisenge who sat out of Sunday’s match due to suspension is set to be recalled to the squad.

Against Berkane, Hassan Oktay’s team struggled to get a consistent hold on the ball and will be out to improve befog boarding the place to Morocco for the return leg with Berkane.

The manner of their defeat left a bitter taste in the mouth of fans and murmurs of player discontent will certainly be exacerbated should they fail to get a result against Bandari.
