Clubs to decide future of KPL Oguda

Kenya Premier League CEO Jack Oguda says the league members will next week meet to decide on the way forward for the company.

Oguda was responding to a question on whether he’ll jump at the opportunity to manage the Football Kenya Federation Premier League season that started on Saturday.

The KPL Limited Company had been running the top-tier league since 2003 when it was formed, to curb the constant wrangles between the Federation and the clubs.

“Our contract with the federation ended but there are some clubs that are yet to sign the broadcast rights with FKF.  We are waiting to see what will happen. Next week we will be having our Annual General Meeting to determine our way forward,” said Oguda.

Zoo Kericho, Mathare United and Ulinzi Stars are yet to sign the broadcast rights deal which has made FKF to postpone two matches which were set to take place Wednesday pitting Ulinzi Stars against Mathare United, and Gor Mahia against Zoo FC.

“The club owners are the ones who own the company(KPL Limited), we are meeting with them next week to find the way forward,” he said, adding: “If asked to manage the current league, for now, it will be tricky because we will have to wait for the final decision on the father of Kenya Premier league Company.”

Last week, on Thursday, while launching the broadcast rights deal, Federation president Nick Mwendwa gave the three clubs until Wednesday to sign the deal failure to which they ‘find a way of dealing with them’.
