Coach Ahaya says MMUST squad good enough for Kenya Cup

Masinde Muliro University (MMUST) rugby coach John Ochieng Ahaya says he is confident his squad can cope with the competition at the top-flight level following their promotion to the Kenya Cup.

The varsity side were promoted last weekend after outclassing Mean Machine 21-12 in the Championship playoffs semi-final and Ahaya said the immediate job will be to ensure his side stays up.

“Our aim is to remain in Kenya cup; we have good players so it’s just a matter of getting the best out of them and employing the right tactics,” the tactician said.

He attributed their success to team cohesion and the squad’s ‘shared goal’ to reach greater heights, adding he was aware they will face a bigger challenge in the Kenya Cup owing to the quality of oppositions.

“The boys have come this far because they have stayed together as a unit for some time and we must keep this kind of consistency to go to another level. Hardwork and commitment have been key through our journey.”

MMUST will face Kabras sugar on February 27 at Kakamega Showground.
