Coach Balozi: Our aim is to retain the title

Ulinzi Warriors head coach William Balozi says he is going to rectify mistakes he saw in his team over the weekend when they played Nairobi University’s Terror.

Ulinzi who are the defending champions terrorized Terror 71-47 despite Terror playing at their home court and Balozi believes they will be able to retain the title.

“We need to stay focused, I saw some mistakes which I will be addressing before we face Equity next weekend as our aim is to retain the title,” he said.

At the same time, Balozi admits they won the match easily despite the home team giving them a hard fight in the first quarter of the match.

“I am happy for the win. We started off well despite our opponents giving us a hard fight in the first quarter but we were able to overpower them and won the match easily,’’ he added.

The Kenya Basketball Federation (BKF) league resumed over the weekend since it was halted in March due to Covid-19.

Only three teams that had followed the protocols in place concerning Covid-19 testing played – Ulinzi Warriors, University of Nairobi’s Terror and Dynamites.

Meanwhile, the federation is working on improving the playing conditions of players and officials to ensure standard safety during league matches as required by the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Heritage and the Ministry of Health.

In that regard, the federation has collaborated with the county government of Machakos for affordable testing charges and the exercise will take place tomorrow Wednesday at Nyayo Indoor Arena.

Today, teams will be submitting payments and a list of players and officials to be tested and the results will be verified on Thursday and confirmation of fixtures will be done the same day for the team to get ready for the games next weekend.
