Coach Mbaha impressed by Vikings show at UoN

Vikings Coach Clyde Mbaha heaped praise on his charges after completing a double over the University of Nairobi with a 2-0 win in their Kenya Hockey Union (KHU) women’s Premier League at City Park on Sunday.

Goals from Antoinette Abakhonje and Charity Juma gave the visitors the advantage as they moved one place up to sixth on the log, relegating Sliders to seventh with 19 points, two behind fifth-placed Amira Sailors.

“Every coach is always happy when three points are garnered and of course this is important because it’s our first win of the second leg,” Mbaha told Citizen Digital following their sixth win in 13 matches.

The victory ended a run of two matches without a win for the Vikings who had lost 6-0 to champions Telkom and drew 0-0 with Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) in their last two matches.

Mbaha’s opposite number Nelson Ondeyo said he was impressed by his team despite the loss and urged for a quick response.

“The girls are improving in their ball work. Today’s match we have tried to contain our opponent and we have conceded fewer goals having lost the first leg 6-0. This is our first time in the league so I won’t put too much pressure on us,” Ondeyo said.

“Tougher matches will come, for sure,” he added.

The newcomers remained rooted at bottom place following the defeat after having won only one point from 13 matches.
