Gor Mahia FC head coach Hassan Oktay has warned his players to show more seriousness in their approach to games after they came on the brink of a catastrophic loss at home to KCB FC on Thursday.

Gor trailed 3-0 in a shock opening 33 minutes with KCB, the last team to defeat the Okaty’s side in a Kenyan Premier League (KPL) match, threatening to end their 22-match unbeaten streak.

But the champions mounted a stunning fightback to draw 3-3 with the equalizer coming in stoppage time. Oktay was hardly impressed by the comeback and turned on his charges for digging themselves into a hole.

“We played as though we’re in training and deserved to go down like we did but once we regained control I knew we could do better,” Oktay said.

Gor visit Western Stima at the Moi Stadium in Kisumu on Sunday seeking to extend their KPL lead into double digits with a win likely to put them 10 points clear at the summit.

The result allowed Gor’s assailants to close in on the league leaders with Sofapaka FC who are second on the standings collecting maximum points against Posta Rangers while thrird-placed Bandari defeated Ulinzi Stars 1-0.

Bandari coach Bernard Mwalala has already conceded the title is beyond their reach but Oktay should expect to be pushed all the way with eight rounds left before the close of the KPL season.

Only one KPL clash is on the cards on Saturday with Vihiga United welcoming Sony Sugar at the Bukhungu Stadium while six more are lined up for a potentially action-packed Sunday.

Machakos will host the highlight clash of the weekend with Tuskers FC and Sofapaka locking horns at the Kenyatta Stadium.
