Coach Oloo wants better performance from Lionesses ahead of Olympics

Kenya Seven’s women rugby team coach Felix Oloo says his goal is to raise the team’s standards ahead of this year’s Olympic Games set for Japan.

His sentiments come after Kenya finished fifth in the just concluded Emirates Invitational Tournament in Dubai.

The Lionesses finished ahead of Japan in the Dubai Invitational Tournament despite failing to win any of their six matches they played in a round-robin format against USA, Brazil, Japan, Canada and France.

The team will now shift gears to the Tokyo Olympics beginning July.

“In two weeks time the team will be going to Tunisia and I believe by that time we will be in a better position because as I said earlier it’s a process. There are some areas I feel the team is at 60% , there are some areas I feel it’s at 20 % , so for me it’s just making sure that everything gets at 60 % then build it up from there to 70 %, 80% onwards. So I’m sure within no time the team will be happy with the performance they’ll get,” said coach Oloo.

Kenya Lionesses finished ahead of Japan in Dubai despite failing to win any of their six matches they played in a round-robin format against USA, Brazil, Japan, Canada and France.

Lionesses lost 22-5 to Canada before going down 31-5 to France before being held by Japan to a 10-10 draw.

On Friday, Kenya narrowly went down 15-12 against Brazil followed by a 22-10 defeat to USA and 43-0 against Japan.

The tournament saw 14 international rugby teams arrive in Dubai on March 26th, moving into bio-bubbles across the Emirates where they participated in the Olympic preparation event with all training and competition at the home of the Emirates Dubai 7s, The Sevens Stadium.

The tournaments took place on April 2nd/3rd and April 8th/9th.
