Coach Pollack arrives to take over Gor job

Gor Mahia FC’s new coach Steven Pollach arrived in the country this afternoon ahead of his official unveiling at the Kenyan Premier League (KPL) club.

He will replace Hassan Oktay who departed the country last week for his native Turkey before tendering his resignation on Tuesday over family issues.

Meanwhile, Gor intensified its training at Jericho’s Camp Toyoyo Grounds ahead of a crunch fixture against Burundi’s  Black Eagles this Sunday in Bujumbura.

Club interim coach Patrick Onyango says evcept for injured Dennis Oliech, they are full house and ready for the weekend assignment.

“We are coping well except for Dennis Oliech whom is still recovering, I can say we are full house and ready for the CAF assignment.

“Our new boys in the squad are so skillful and I can see them fight for slots in the first eleven since we are spoilt for choice. They are all good,” he said.

Odhiambo who will be hoping to have his first test of a continental assignment as an assistant coach says he will hand over the coaching role to Finish coach Steven Pollack after his unveiling tomorrow and will be fully under him.

He was handed the temporary coaching role as the head coach last week when Oktay was granted five days to attend to family matters back home in England but ended up resigning through a letter to the club chairman Ambrose Rachier last evening.

Asked about his role in the upcoming Champions League tie in Bujumbura, Odhiambo dispelled rumours that he will not be allowed on the touchline owing to his class ‘C’ CAF license saying he is fully licensed by CAF and will play his role as the assistant coach on the touchline.

“I don’t know where people get all these wrong facts about my licensing. I am fully licensed by CAF and will be fully involved in all CAF matches. Unless those who know better explain to me why I should be sideline, I will be fully in charge as Pollack’s assistant,’’ explained Odhiambo.

Gor were last season dropped from CAF Confederations Cup following a humiliating and retaliatory 4-0 thumping by Zamalek at Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria Egypt after an earlier 4-2 win at Kasarani in the first leg.

Meanwhile Gor will jet out Friday for Burundi for the Champions League preliminary rounds first leg against Burundi powerhouse Black Eagles in Bujumbura.

Odhiambo says they are motivated by the National team players who have all joined the camp after the CHAN elimination by Taifa Stars last weekend at Kasarani.
