Commonwealth Games Trials advanced to February

Trials for the 2018 Commonwealth Games have been pushed three weeks early and will now be held in February 16 and 17, Athletics Kenya (AK) has said.

AK CEO Susan Kamau said a communication from the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (Nock) on the need to make early entries for the April 4-15 showpiece set to be held in Gold Coast prompted the rescheduling.

“The Technical Commitee director informed us that entries for various disciplines for the Games need to be made early and requested whether we could do the trials before February 17,” Kamau said.

The CEO stated that the Nyayo National Stadium will be retained as the venue of the Trials but the camping venue will be communicated later.

At the same time she also confirmed that the fourth AK Track and Field meet that was set to be hosted in Eldoret has been postponed.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, Kamau said the weekend meeting which was set to take place on December 29 and 30, had to be postponed to a later date as it falls during the Chrismas and New Year holidays.
