Communications specialist Barry Otieno takes over as FKF acting CEO

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Nick Mwendwa has appointed Barry Omondi Otieno as the acting General Secretary and CEO of the national football governing body, with his mandate taking effect immediately.

Otieno, who has been the federation’s  Communications  and Public Relations Manager, will now handle both roles until further notice.

This comes after embattled CEO Robert Muthomi’s announcement on Sunday that he was stepping aside in the wake of the transfer saga involving Sofapaka ace John Avire.

Making the announcement at a press briefing  on Monday at the federation headquarters, Mwendwa emphasized Muthomi’s future will be known in 30-40 days from now.

“The FKF disciplinary committee will be expected to submit their report on investigations in about 40 days. It is a big statement that underscores how seriously we take this matter, and the structures we have put since taking over the office. He (Muthomi) cannot be vilified until the due process is over,” said Mwendwa.

Muthomi stepped aside on Sunday, after Sofapaka wrote to FKF seeking to know why and how the SG was conducting their player transfer business without their consent, using his office to seek entry to Egypt where he is purported to be working towards selling the player.
