Confusion mars Ushuru-Thika play-off as KPL releases 2018 fixtures

Confusion continues to surround the Kenya Premier League (KPL) play-off match pitting Ushuru and Thika United even as the league body released its fixtures for the 2018 season.

According to FKF’s Communications and Public Relations Manager, Barry Otieno, both Thika and Ushuru have been notified that the matches will be played on December 10 and 13, with Thika playing the first leg at home.

Initially the play-off was set for December  2 and 6, but FKF pushed it forward after consultation with KPL.

However, Thika United head coach Nicholas Muyoti  says that as far as he is concerned, the games will be played on  December 6  and 10.

“As per my knowledge the play-off will be on December 6 and 10. We are reporting to training camp on Wednesday to prepare for the matches,” Muyoti said in an interview with Citizen Digital.

Muyoti at the same time said that they will initiate talks with Harambee Stars technical bench for the release of the midfielder Said  Tsuma who is currently participating in the ongoing  Cecaf  Senior Challenge Cup, so as to have him for the crucial two-leg play-offs.

Meanwhile, league champions Gor Mahia will begin their  2018 title defence against Namukattt FC on February 3 at the Kasarani Stadium. This will be a week after facing off with AFC Leopards in the Super Cup set for Jan 28 at the same venue.

At the same time, military side Ulinzi Stars will launch their hunt for a fifth league title against Zoo FC at home, at the Afraha Stadium on February 2, as Leopards aim their claws on Posta Rangers in an away fixture at the Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on February 4.
