Conjestinas family to sue over death rumours

The family of the former female World Boxing champion Conjestina Achieng has dismissed the rumours doing rounds on social media that she was dead saying they will sue outlets that carried the sick reports.

According to his elder brother William Ochieng’ the rumours are only being spread by the ailing boxer’s ‘haters’.

He told journalists that Achieng is alive and kicking even though she is still ailing, adding that they suspect that the rumours are being peddled by the boxer’s enemies who want to grab her piece of land in Nairobi.

“People have been talking some things we can’t comprehend that have spread so much that Conjestina is dead. Conjestina is still alive but her medical problems persist,” Ochieng said.

The elder sibling stated that they have a land grabbing case in court against some individuals who wanted to grab the former world champion’s piece of land in Nairobi’s Lucky Summer Estate, and that they suspect they are peddling the reports to shift people’s focus from that case.

“This is the fifth time such claims have been made. As a brother, I have discovered she has enemies who are pleased with her condition to conduct business and make profit out of Conjestina.

“We are going to take action from now on to end this business and get them caught by the Government,” he charged.

The aggrieved Ochieng, who was speaking at their rural home in Yala Division, Gem has threatened to sue online outlets that peddled the story.

He stated that the claims have created a lot of fear amongst the family members, adding that they have tolerated the ‘nonsense’ for so long that this time they must take appropriate action against those spreading such malicious rumours.

The boxer’s brother has however appealed to the government and well wishers to come to their aid so that the boxer who was nicknamed ‘hands of stone’ in her heyday can get proper treatment.

She became the first African woman to hold an international title when she beat Ugandan Fiona Tugume to take the vacant WIBF Middleweight title. She also lost out in controversial title fight circumstances to then WBC, and WBA Super middleweight Natascha Ragosina of Russia.
