County Assembly postpones Terer, Komen report release

Uasin Gishu County Assembly has postponed the opening of a revelation report in which Speaker, Isaac Terer, has been accused for swindling millions of money from the 2007 World 1500m champion, Daniel Komen.

Majority Leader Josphat Lowoi who had been mandated by the Assembly to grill both Terer and Komen over the scam tried to read a sworn affidavit from Terer noting that he could not reach the Double World Indoor 1,500m silver medalist.

“Considering the weight of this report and the anxiety this matter has caused, I would like this house to allow me more time to look for Komen so that I can make a submission of both parties at the same day. I cannot move a motion because I was not able to meet the other party,” Lowoi stated.

However, he was quickly shot down by Ngenyilel Member of County Assembly (MCA) David Singoei who argued it would be unfair to proceed with one-sided report.

“Despite the public curiosity this issue has caused let us not forget that justice, however long it takes, must take first precedence. We must allow Komen to give us his side of the story before this statement is made otherwise what we’ll be doing is taking an unfair stance,” David Singoei MCA.

Further, Singoei warned that since the issue is in court it would not be in order to reveal the report especially since Komen had no representation in the County Assembly.

The leader of majority was forced to request for a week to finalize his work by interviewing Komen and report the same to the county assembly Thursday next week.

Komen has taken the case to the Advocate Disciplinary Committee, where he wants Terer charged for professional misconduct besides being compelled to refund the cash involved.
