County says Kinoru Stadium ready for KPL matches

The final touches are being applied on Kinoru Stadium as the facility braces to host its first top flight match on Sunday.

Significant progress has been made since Kenyan Premier League (KPL) officials toured the grounds earlier this week with the pitch having been marked, grass trimmed and the terraces cleaned out.

Various stands on the stadium are still being roofed while renovations on the perimeter wall are nearing completion.

The Sports CEC for Meru County Government Joy Karui Muriungi assured the public and the KPL management that all recommended improvements had been made and the venue is now ready to host Tusker FC and AFC Leopards who are primed to clash at the Kinoru Stadium.

“The pitch is ready for use and we are happy that Tusker Fc will host AFC leopards on Sunday. The stadium has also been booked for several other events,” Muriungi told Citizen Digital.

She was optimistic that the changing rooms, bathrooms and power shall all be ready ahead of the match.

The Brewers are expected to arrive in Meru later Thursday where they will use the facility for their pre-match training sessions and warm ups.

The local administration’s CEC for Transport Infrastructure and Public Works, Newton Itobi, rated phase one progress at 95 percent complete and said the track is 90 percent done.

The pitch has an automated underground irrigation system, has four changing rooms to give it the capability of hosting an equal number of teams as well as a first aid room.

In phase two, the renovation work will include construction of more terraces in the stadium.
