Court clears Nock boss Soi to travel to Australia

The Court has released passport belonging to Rio Olympics Games Chef De Mission, Stephene Arap Soi to enable him travel to Australia.

Magistrate Martha Mutuku directed the prosecution to release his passport until October 23 when the matter will be mentioned.

Soi who was appointed as Africa Coordinator for the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia in 2016 moved to court seeking to have his passport released to enable him travel.

Soi argued that he is expected to participate in the Gold Coast 2018 preparations, scheduled to start April 4-15.

He says the release of his passport will enable him to process his Visa to attend a seminar slated for October 8 -12.

“As part of preparations for the events, I am required to represent the country,” the application read.

The court heard that he received an email from Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation (GOLDDOC) September 8, asking him to obtain a visa to facilitate the accreditation process.

“In recognition of your extensive experience in previous Commonwealth Games and many other large multi-sport events, I am pleased to extend an invitation for you to join the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Working Group,” read the invite from Mellisa Price the CGA Relations and Operations manager.

On September 14, Soi made an application to have his passport released, his lawyer claiming that Soi has been appointed the Chef de Mission for team Kenya to the Gold Coast Commonwealth games.

A quick check with the National Olympic Committee of Kenya revealed that Soi has not been appointed to this position. Instead what the NOC has is Soi’s appointment of 2016 by the GOKDDOC.
