Court gives KTA ultimatum to withdraw Nock case

The Kenya Taekwondo Association has until August 2 to withdraw a case in court against National Olympic Commission of Kenya (Nock).

High court judge Chacha Mwita on Monday gave the two parties until Wednesday to reach a settlement and have the matter withdrawn from the court. Taekwondo had gone to court seeking to adjourn the Nock Executive Committee May 5th elections.

Lawyer Kimutai Bosek representing KTA, submitted that they were negotiating the matter and are yet to reach consent before withdrawing the case.

Meanwhile, orders stopping the elections have been extended until the 2nd of August. This is after the High Court earlier this year gave a temporal injunction to stop the elections after Taekwondo was barred from voting during the Nock Exco elections.

According to Center for Multiparty Democracy-Kenya, the body mandated to oversee the Nock elections, Kenya Taekwondo Federation is an unregistered affiliate and has two warring factions thus it was ineligible to vote.

The federation had fronted two exco members – Stephen arap Soi and James Chacha – for re-election. Soi is among four Nock top officials facing charges in court over the Rio 2016 fiasco.

Last month, the International Olympics Committee (IOC), expressed their disappointments with Nock and demanded to know what actions have been take by the local committee to resolve the issues surrounding the “Taekwondo Federation.”
