Death strikes the heart of rugby again
The cruel hand of death has struck the heart of rugby yet again, snatching the lives of former rugby player Peter Wekesa and his twin brother John Wekesa.
The duo was involved in a tragic accident in Mombasa on Sunday and was pronounced dead at the Mariakani hospital.
The departed are elder brothers to the late Andrew Wekesa, also former rugby player with Homeboyz .Wekesa killed in January this year in Kitengela.
Peter captained Homeboyz RFC to win Ess Cup in 2011. Peter also played for Impala Saracens RFC.
“With profound sorrow we would like to inform you all about the sad demise of Mr. Peter Wekesa and Mr. John Wekesa through a fatal road accident yesterday.
“Peter was a captain at Homeboyz Rugby Club that led the team on an unbeaten streak winning the ESS Cup that earned us promotion to the Kenya Cup in 2011. The two were also brothers of the late Andrew Wekesa.
“Let’s pray for the departed Souls and the bereaved friends, family members and the rugby family especially through this trying time.
“Homeboyz Rugby Club expresses our deep and heartfelt condolences and joins in praying for the sorrowing family who have lost three young men in less than a year. Let our Almighty God take the departed souls to their Heavenly Abode and give the entire family strength to bear this heartbreaking loss.
“We will give further updates once we receive them and request that we all allow the family time to grieve,” the club said in an emotional post of their official Facebook page.
The death of the duo comes just a day after another ruby star, Mike Okombe was stabbed to death in Nakuru by his partner.
