Dickson Chumba wins Chicago Marathon

Dickson Chumba won the men’s race at the 2015 Bank of America Chicago Marathon on Sunday.

Chumba finished the race in an unofficial time of with a time of 2.9:25.

The Kenyan runner burst into the limelight in 2014 with a win and a course record at the Tokyo Marathon. He followed that performance with a third-place showing at the 2014 Chicago Marathon in a new personal best of 2.04.32.

Though he did not manage to beat the record, Chumba managed to cross the tape first and claim his first ever Chicago Marathon win.

Speaking after the race, Chumba said he hopes to return in 2016 and break the record set.

“Maybe next year to win. I need to run maybe a faster time,” he said.

Fellow Kenyans Sammy Kitwara and Sammy Ndungu finished in second and third places, respectively.

In the women category, Florence Kiplagat broke away at 40 kilometres to win the race in time of 2.23.33.
