Dolphines dominate as swimming trials conclude in Kasarani

Ugandan side Dolphines Swim Club earned 608 points to top the Swimming Trials for the Commonwealth Games at the Kasarani Aquatic Complex as curtains closed on the competition on Sunday.

Mombasa Aquatics finished first runners-up with Makini Schools Sports Academy completing the top podium places in third.

Dolphines coach Muzafaru Muganguzi said he was pleased with his side’s ‘exemplary’ performance and hailed his swimmers for their desire to keep improving.

“The competition was good but I am more happy with the development of this team,” Muganuzi told Citizen Digital and added he had left most of the experience swimmers in Kampala.

Acting Kenya Swimming Federation (KSF) Chairman Patrick Muya confirmed that names of the qualifying 40 swimmers will be announced on Monday.

“We will compile the data, keeping in mind stats posted by foreign-based swimmers and then we come up with the list by tomorrow morning,” Muya said.

Selected local swimmers will train in Nairobi and Mombasa while KSF has promised to make ‘appropriate arrangements’ for the foreign legion.

The official added he is optimistic Kenyans will make a good impression in Gold Coast, Australia as they prepare to make their first ever Commonwealth appearance in April.

“If they train hard listen to their their coaches then they will perform well,” he said.
