DP Ruto makes new stadia promise

Deputy President William Ruto has once again promised of all the stadia that the Jubilee Government promised to construct when they took office in 2013 will be completed by the end of this year.

In an exclusive interview on Citizen TV last night, Ruto was put to task over the pledge that has continued to haunt the administration. He alluded that Kinoru Stadium in Meru County and Embu Stadium in Embu County were complete.

“I think already the stadium in Meru is complete and the stadium in Embu is as well complete.” Ruto said.

The Deputy President also revealed that the government had secured enough resources to guarantee completion of all pending construction works in various stadia across the country adding that President Uhuru Kenyatta had issued a directive that all stadia under construction be finalized by the end of the year.

“We now have sufficient resources for the whole stadium arrangement in the country, and the president has directed that they all be completed by the end of the year,” he added.

Ruto’s sentiments however attracted immediate criticism from Kenyans who questioned his assertions noting that the said stadia were in deplorable state and others far from completion.

“The stadium in Embu is complete??? I need to see an optician,” @SirDunne replied in a tweet.

“In this country everything is politicised so it’s hard to tell who is telling the truth and who is lying” said one @AlexKioko

Ruto has been on record before (in 2019) saying that the main reason why these stadia weren’t complete was down to part of the allocation that was meant for those project being used for the repeat presidential election in 2017, which was allocated 15billion shillings.

Whether the Deputy President’s sentiments on the completion of these stadia are true it’s a matter of wait and see as Kenyans still battle with the inadequacy of sports infrastructure in the country.
