Drama as Nock elections called off on D-Day

The planned National Olympics Committee of Kenya (Nock) elections took a stunning turn of events just as officials braced to go to ballot on Friday.

A dramatic elections build-up that had seen Dr. Kipchoge Keino, the incumbent President of the embattled national body, fall off the race and two other Executive Committee members barred from vying culminated in its cancellation.

The Kenya Taekwondo Association, one of the affiliate federations that had been struck off the voters’ list, sought and were granted a temporary injunction restraining the exercise that was set to give Nock a new face of leadership for the first time in close to two decades.

According to CMD-Kenya, the body mandated to oversee the Nock elections, Kenya Taekwondo Federation is an unregistered affiliate and has two warring factions thus is ineligible to vote.

With the federation having fronted two exco members – Stephen arap Soi and James Chacha – for re-election, both officials who are among four facing charges in court over the Rio 2016 fiasco were consequently ruled out.
