The East Africa Secondary School Games rugby sevens champions Muhuri Muchiri will be among the stars to beat at this year’s Mang’u School Open.

Event organiser Irungu Maina confirmed that the 2017 SOYA School Team (Boys) Award winners are among the notable sides that will grace the annual competition, now in its 26th edition.

The official said he expects teams to use the tournament as a platform on which to learn and improve team tactics ahead of the new secondary schools games season.

“The main objective of this event is to improve tackling skills through interaction. Coaches will have a chance to share ideas as way of bench marking.

“Since we launched this tournament, participating schools always gone on to impress at the national level and Muhuri Muchiri is the latest such example,” Maina told Citizen Digital.

The Mang’u open will kick off in January 20 ahead of the Term 1 Kenya Secondary School Games slated for April 6-14 in Embu County.
