Egoji crowned Eastern Intercollegiate Athletics champions

Egoji TTC were crowned the Kenya Teachers Colleges Association Eastern athletics champions after securing 403 points to top the annual Intercollegiate Championship on Friday.

Kigari TTC relinquished their title in second after garnering 369 points with Meru rounding off the top three places with a tally of 310 points.

Six teams participated at the two-day event that attracted over 520 participants in 22 disciplines.

Lawrence Oyaro of Kigari clocked 10.22.43 to win the 3000m steeplechase event which attracted immense attention with Egoji’s Andrew Jomosi coming second after timing 10.28.86.  Augustine Kangoa of Meru was third in 10:29:60.

George Thuo, Deputy Director TSC Meru called on the participants to embrace sports to also better their career.

“From the new curriculum, Competence Based Curriculum, lets keep our dream alive. You can train and be coaches for the schools that you will join” the TSC director advised.

James Muguna Principal Kigari and National Chair KTCSA,
echoed the participants for the good sportsmanship.

“Am glad we showed up for the competitions barely a week after opening the colleges. This is not only a competition event, but an event to exercise discipline” said Muguna.

“We believe through such events, we can also realise some serious talents that can try career in sport. Lets not forget about this even as we get to class” he added.

The Chair who also comes from the Eastern region urged those that will present the region in the Nationals to embrace unity as a team and burry their colleges differences.

The winners will be headed for Eregi Teachers College in Kakamega for National event on Tuesday, 14 May 2019.
