Embu 7s hosts eye main cup as tournament moves to Njukiri Showground

Embu RFC Assistant Coach Benson Mwenda targets the main cup trophy during this year’s edition of the Embu 7s to be played on 6 and 7 July at the ASK Showground Njukiri, Embu.

Embu RFC host the fourth edition of the tourney and according to the former Embu RFC fly-half, their just ended Central Nationwide league describes their potential to win their maiden.
“We finished top of the Central Nationwide league and reached the championship playoff quarterfinals; that’s a clear description of how ruthless our side can be in this year’s tourney.”

The Embu based side reached the main cup quarterfinals last year losing to finalists Kenya Harlequin.

“Last year we did well reach the quarters and with the talent, we have this year will help us go further than we did in the last tournament.”

Top tier teams in the KRU leagues have confirmed their participation in this year’s edition including the defending Champions Mean Machine. Others include Kenya Harlequin, Menengai Oilers, Blak Blad, Nondies, Catholic Monks and Northern Suburbs.

“The tournament is growing day by day and with the confirmation of these teams outlines it all.”

The tournament will take place out of town(Njukiri Showground) for the first time since inauguration four years ago with the aim of reaching rugby talents in the grassroots.

Kenya Rugby Union, the Embu County government, Privamnuts and Kengen are the main sponsors. Tickets will go for Ksh 200 per person at the gate and Ksh 150 each for a group of five people.
